Customers in a natural gas funded area are eligible for incentives even if they do not have natural gas service. Please confirm via Zip Code lookup that your customer is in an eligible zip code. 


Incentives are available in all cases when the heat pump installed is replacing an existing non-heat pump heating system, or replacing just the heating element of that system. Furnaces eligible for replacement include. but are not limited to: central furnaces, wall furnaces, forced air furnaces, electric baseboard furnaces, and wood-burning stoves—anything other than a heat pump.


The following list of heating fuels are allowable for heat pump replacement with TECH Clean California incentives:

  • Freestanding propane stoves (if not plug-in) 
  • Plug-in electric heaters x-no
  • Heat pump x- no


Air Conditioning


TECH Clean California projects are not required to have existing air conditioning at the project site. Some partner programs may require both existing heating and cooling to participate in their programs. In these cases, the baseline TECH incentive is available to the customer.
